When Instagram Won’t Sync with your Facebook Page!

Maybe your Instagram used to sync with your Facebook… or maybe you’ve never been able to get it to work.

You would think this would be easy/seamless, since Facebook also owns Instagram, but not always.

I’m not going to get into how to sync your two accounts – there is plenty of instruction readily available on how to do that, like right here if you prefer text instructions and right here if you prefer video:

What I’m going to troubleshoot here is what to do when you have already synced your accounts correctly, and Instagram shows you the toggle button you can select to post to your Facebook page, and you have said YES, and… it still doesn’t work! Or, perhaps it was working just fine, and then all of sudden, stopped working!

1. DOUBLE-CHECK you have done everything correctly on Facebook

So the first thing you do is check in your Facebook account that you have input the settings correctly for the Instagram account you want to link – this is the Instagram account that you want to auto-post to FB. I’m going to demo on one of my accounts called Listen.To.Your.Horse and it should look like this:

2. DOUBLE-CHECK you have also done everything correctly on Instagram

If that all looks good, then the next thing you do is go into your Settings (see the red circle?) on your Instagram account:

Now you’re in your Instagram Settings, and next click on Linked Accounts – see it circled in red?:

Then make sure you have selected Facebook as an account you want to link to:

3. Now UNLINK your Facebook account in your Instagram settings!

Yes, you read that correctly. In your Instagram settings, go ahead and UNLINK your Facebook account. Here’s what that looks like:

Now update your Instagram app.

Next update your Facebook app.

Now go back in to your Instagram settings (as per Step 2 above) and LINK your Facebook account again.

Basically, the reason I think this works is that Instagram and FB seem to update their apps independently. And once one of them has updated, they obviously don’t test thoroughly for integration functionality. So best way around this is to make sure you’ve configured both apps properly, then un-link them, update both apps, and link them again. Voila!

Give it 24 hours to work and test it by posting to your Instagram, while making sure you have selected YES to also post to your Facebook page. It should look something like this (I have an iPhone 8, so Android may look different) to show that the link is installed and selected/turned on:

Okay – let me know if that works for you!
